Gone Too Soon….
This past weekend New Orleans lost a very important man due to senseless violence. Ex Saints player, Will Smith, New Orleans very own adopted hometown hero. Father, Husband, Son and friend was shot to death last Saturday night after spending time with his beautiful wife and friends at dinner. What started as a fender bender lead to the fatal shooting of Smith and injuring his wife, Raquel. Words cannot express how the city is mourning this saint. Will Smith was a driving force of the Saints team that triumphed at Super Bowl XLIV in 2010. He was a leader, and mentor to most of the players. Off the field he was equally as great. In the years since leaving football, Smith continued focusing on charitable activities, including his foundation, Where There’s A Will, There’s A Way. The organization mentors and provides support for at-risk children in Louisiana and upstate New York. Like the rest of the citizens of New Orleans, I am deeply saddened by the death of Will and the shooting injury suffered by Raquel. I will continue to pray for the family and pray that justice will be served.
